The Founder

Sharnel Silvey

Sharnel Silvey is the Founder and President of A Scarlet Covering. Ms. Silvey spent 13 years of her life working in and around the sex trade, as an employee, and the Madam of the first legalized brothel in the United States, Mustang Ranch. In 2003, Ms. Silvey gave her life to Christ and began the road to transformation. After just five years of her new life, Ms. Silvey founded A Scarlet Covering. Ms. Silvey is a graduate of a two year training at Victory International Training Center and holds a certificate of Ministerial Training. Ms. Silvey is currently enrolled in training at AACC and will be certified as a Christian Counselor January 2010. Ms. Silvey holds a certificate in prescription drugs abuse, addiction, and harm reduction for outreach and sex workers. As of 2009, Ms. Silvey began to serve on Northern Nevada Planning Council. In January 2010, Nevada's Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto appointed Ms Silvey to serve on the subcommitte for Victims of Crime with General Masto and other community officials. Ms. Silvey is a minister, life coach, mentor and friend to many women and teens involved in the sex trade. Her mission is to share the love of Christ while helping people realize their God given purpose in life.

Currently Ms. Silvey organizes periodic outreaches with her team, sharing love and support offering a dozen roses each, to women in brothels, strip clubs and on the streets of Northern Nevada. Since its founding in 2007, A Scarlet Coveringhas reached out locally to over 250 women in five strip clubs, four brothels and during twelve street outreaches. As of Thanksgiving 2009 ASC adopted two local strip clubs and served the women Thanksgiving dinner. During the Christmas season  the ASCteam goes to each establishment where  they have brought roses throughout the year, and delivers gifts, home baked cookies and misc. treats. In 2009, Ms. Silvey's focus became community partners and how to better serve women and children that come from the sex trade. In July 2009, ASC team began undercover operations for street/hotel prostitution with Reno Police Department Set Team. Another partner of ASC is Northern Nevada Hopes. During ASC and RPD undercover operations NNV Hopes has a station for HIV testing/prevention. October 2009, ASC has partnered with Reno Municipal Court. A Scarlet Covering and Reno Municipal Court created the first of its kind specialty court for lives in the sex trade. This court allows for funding to pay for counseling, rehabilitation and other resources that have not been available to the lives of the sex trade until now. July 2009, ASC started the first of its kind confidential group support. ASC S.I.R.T. *Sex Industry Restoration Therapy, group support meets weekly for current and former workers of the sex trade. ASC continues to help many via our web site and through our international 24/7 toll free help-line, A Scarlet Covering has shared support and love to hundreds of  women.

January 2010, A Scarlet Covering signed our first annual lease for office space of 1443 sq. ft. at 580 W. 5th St. #14 Reno, NV 89502. This will be in-service office that offers case management, drug/alcohol counseling, HIV testing/prevention, STD testing/prevention along with support and resources to help women and children begin a new life and transition into society. A Scarlet Covering's long term goal is to build our first Safe Haven by 2011!
